F Words and F Notes

There are some days when I feel like everything that comes out of Bo's mouth is downright hilarious. Sometimes I'm right. Sometimes it's just me. Here are some recent conversations, and then I want to tell you about his violin lesson today.

On our way to the store Bo saw the Super Target sign and read it aloud:
Are all Targets "Super Target"?

No, just the ones that have grocery stores in them.

Ohhhhhh. So, like a Super McDonald's, then?

Hahaha! No, there's no such thing as a Super McDonald's
.
Yes there is! We've been in at least TWO or more McDonald's with grocery stores in them!

Me: Bo, what do you want for dinner?
Bo: You always ask me that, and really, you don't have to ask me that because pretty much every time, the answer is going to be the same, I'm going to say, "Crab legs".

Number of times Bo has had crab legs for dinner: Ø, zilch, never

You know what I want to be when I grow up? I want to be in a band, be a bus driver, AND be a dentist. I'll have to go to college for a year to learn how to be a bus driver and a dentist. To be in a band I just have to practice a lot. Then, being a dentist will make it possible so that I can be a bus driver.
This comes from J's passion for third world development. In the past he has toyed with several different options for a profession that would make working in other countries a possibility. A dentist is one profession that we've discussed at length. Bo clearly has picked up on this.

And finally, his violin lesson. I must start with a few notes for background. One, I pride myself on my ability to not get embarrassed very easily. It's not impossible, but it rarely happens.
Secondly, his teacher. He's darling. He goes to my church, but a different congregation, and he played for us once and Bo remarked, "I could do that" and I decided it was time for him to put his money where his mouth is, and that's how we got started with lessons. But really, this guy is darling. And very good with Bo. He's patient, he has a good sense of humor, he pushes him, he is encouraging but expects a lot and Bo responds very well.

So today Bo played the song he practiced all week. It's his first song, so kind of a big deal. He did quite well, and as a little treat, Mr. C played alongside him. Bo squeaked and paused and was a little flat, but played with gusto. And when they finished, Bo said, "We sounded exactly the same!"

Then, just as Bo's lesson finished, I turned to discuss future lesson dates with his teacher and Bo was supposed to be loosening his bow and putting away his violin.

Instead he blurts out, "Oh man! I almost said the F- Word!"

I could NOT believe my ears. And I kind of couldn't speak. Finally I sputtered, "What F word are you talking about Bo?" And he answers, "The bad word that you aren't supposed to say, the one that rhymes with..."

I clapped my hand over his mouth and sunk down in my chair in COMPLETE and utter embarrassment. Of course I was laughing uncontrollably too.

The worst part of all was, his teacher, trying to help me feel better about it all said, "Did you learn that word at school Bo?"

"Nope, I was at home."

He was. It was just outside our home.

And I leave you with sweetness, playing the violin. Not almost saying filthy words.

And lest you think I sugar coat anything, I even left in the near-bow-beating of Danyo.

I love the look of sheer utter annoyance that he acctually has to start the song over, and it's his own choice, you didn't make him do it! LOL!!

I laughed out loud for real when I read those conversations with Bo. I'm with him...when asked what I want for dinner, I'm always going to say Crab Legs, too

Omgosh, lol. Good thing you didn't name Danyo, Tucker. All that rhyming going on.
Super Mcdonald's= A Classic.
That kid is so smart and funny. I love it!

Have you been shopping at a Walmart with a McDonalds?

Bo just gave his first concert. The kids were sitting around as he played. The even hung on to stay after his brief intermission ;)

I laughed so hard at the f-word comment. Which may be a sad commentary on how I am doing, but nevertheless. And then, the priceless "nope, at home." HA! Maybe now you'll stop swearing...;)

I am so impressed at how you remember these little funny conversations with your children, too. I try to, but can't for some reason. Maybe my kids just aren't as funny as yours.
Thanks for sharing, though. I needed a laugh. You're awesome!

Crab legs? Does he have any idea how hard those things are to eat?
I hope his dental training takes longer than a year. Even if he does plan on practicing in a third world country. :)

I read his teacher flinched instead of his teacher finished. Kind of a stretch, but it is really late. And for some reason, I could almost hear J saying the same things Bo said. And one more thing, that is an AWESOME shirt Bo is wearing. I wish I had a really cool friend who gave out tie-dye shirts as party favors at a birthday party.

Yeah BO! That was awesome! I think this is the age that truly gives life long stories for the mother to treasure:) I hope he is a bus driver/dentist/band member in my third world country!

I love it - especially that he admitted to just "almost" saying the f word. My kind of kid.

Also, I would eat crab legs for every dinner too. I think I could eat dinner at Red Lobster every day of my life. I have an infatuation, and the bane of my existence is my husbands allergy to shellfish. I never get to go. Even today - it's our anniversary today, and I have to go to a funeral and eat potatoes....
Dont you love how I made this about ME?

It's more funny everytime I read it!
Nice camera work, mom. Keeping the "bow-attack" out of the picture!
Thanks for the ride last night! It was a blast!

He did great! I'm impressed. Seriously, his teacher must be good:)

Seriously, I have some street cred here and he's pretty good! I can't see his bowing thumb from here to verify the presence of a bend, but the left elbow placement looks right and his bow was pretty straight. He's a good little Twinkler.

Super McD's, indeed. My kids just look for a McDonalds with a playplace and that's all it needs to qualify as super, not a consistent application of labels for all establishments. But I guess that's just around the corner, right? Ah, how quickly they grow up.

Those were truly funny. Once my kids tattled that their friend was using the "S" word. Turns out they thought the "S" word was "shut up". I didn't correct them.

It felt like I could have been watching one of my own home videos. At least the bow beating part did...

LOL! So... Isabel asked me what I thought she should be when she grows up. I told her maybe she could teach gymnastics and she said, "Or work at McDonalds because I like their nuggets." I told her she didn't have enough hickies to work at McD because I'm a good mom like that.

I loved watching Bo go after Danyo with the bow!!

Please give the poor child his Crab legs dinner! That's all he ever wanted and still wants! Oh I weep for you Bo.

I :D at barnecked lady.

I want to know what he's going to call his band.

That video is so sweet! I loved how Danyo is ever present in all videos.

Oh be a dentist!!! Because University of Pitt has one of the best dental schools out there apparently because there are always about 15 families in our ward who are in the dental program, and then you can live by me!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and Bo's hilarious...Super McDonalds...

Calvin SOOOOO wants to take violin - he came cruising in here as soon as he heard the video start. And then he just cracked up laughing - "He's like, beating his little brother!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!" heheheh. I think that just added another perk to learning violin.
