I ♥ JBJ

I'm not a fanatical type. I could never pull off being a groupie. I find flaws in the flawless way too easily. I see girls in the audience of concerts screaming, shaking, sobbing even, and I do not get that. At. All.

I don't know if it's a personality type or if it I just haven't met that which I could become fanatical about. Last night on tv I saw people at a rally getting Rudy Giuliani's autograph. I said to J, "uh, what are they going to do with that?" I really don't understand the fascination with one's signature. Unless you could make money off of it. Then I totally get it.

With that being said, Bon Jovi makes me all a twitter. I can't explain it. I don't even understand it myself. And you must know, this isn't an easy confession for me to make. I'd be perfectly happy to keep my infatuation with JBJ mostly to myself.

I could go into more detail about my love for him, but really there isn't much more. I don't have a lot of his paraphernalia, I only have one of his Cds, I don't even know his birthday. I just know that when I see his face I instinctively say something like, "Man, he's hot" or "Ohhh, look at that face!" or "mmmmm" and that is REALLY not like me. And I really like his music too. That might just be a happy coincidence.

When I was 12 I was in the 7th grade and the most painfully awkward tween known to man. My parents were pretty strict about music and I can't remember specifically, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't allowed to listen to rock music. It's made for some difficult times in my adult life and marriage. J will be rocking out to some song and say, "remember this song?" all ready to share some great moment with me and I have never even heard of it. And then for a few minutes, we'll have nothing in common.

Well, in 7th grade a cover band came to my junior high and performed. They were called "The Edge" I remember about 3 things from my 7th grade year. One was Steve B., one was a zit, and the other was The Edge. They played "Living on a Prayer". You wouldn't believe how hard and fast I fell for that song. I remember walking home from school that day, having just heard the song for the first time, belting out, "Whoooooooooaaaa-ohhhhhh we're HAFF WAY THERE, WHOOOOOOOO-OHHHH livin' on a prayer..." I had seen a lot of the hardships of union strikes and working for tips at a diner in my whitebread world. Or something.

Since then, pretty much any song Bon Jovi has released, I've loved. I can't say I love all his music because, as I said, I have only one of his cds. My brother got it for me at an outlet store.

Which leads me to my point: (you can search high and low in this post up to this sentence, and you wouldn't even come remotely close to my point). Today I was doing dishes and to drown out the sound of kids asking for food or diapers changed, I put on my ipod. And soon I was jamming to a slamming mixture of The Police, Shakira, and of course, my luvah--Bon Jovi.

Bed of Roses was from my high school days, working at Pizza Hut. This song was on the jukebox and I played it almost every night when the restaurant was closed and I could blast the jukebox. Listening to this song as it drowns out the sounds of needy children, it takes me back to a younger, free-er, thinner age, and I love it.

Only, now I'm 32. I'm responsible. I've graduated from college. I have three children. I balance a checkbook. I've lived a lot since those days of jukebox blasting. One thing remains, Bon Jovi is still sexy and I still love his voice on this song.

However.

I can no longer ignore something.

It is this:
"With an ironclad fist I wake up and french kiss the morning..."

What the?

What does that even mean? I know there are a lot of literary references out there that I just don't get. I know when I hear one. I think to myself, "Wow, that's deep. I have no idea what it means, but I can tell it means something." I'm okay with accepting deep, meaningful things I don't get. I am not okay with accepting random, weird things that can't possibly mean something else.

Do you know what it means? Is it some reference to Proust and I'm really that dense? For the sake of mine and Jon's relationship, I hope. I'm getting to the point in my life where I really can't take unexplained weirdness or stupidity. Life's too short.

I think it's a iron-clad resolve to air out his mouth first thing in the morning because he can't stand his own morning breath.

Sorry, too graphic for a first comment? If it is my first comment. When I was new to blogdom, I found several blogs I read, didn't bookmark them because I knew I would remember where they were, then lost them. Now sometimes I'll click on someone and go, "THAT'S where that person went!" I think you might be one of those. Very entertaining post! I like Jon Bon Jovi too. "It's My Life" is one of those I turn way up if it comes on the radio.

Oh yes, and I came over from NCS's blog. Forgot that. She's also one of those I "rediscovered"!

Were you really the most painfully awkward tween known to man?

I seem to remember a certain life plan you had, something about the way you position your back or something....how did that go?

Ok, so whatever.

During my exchange student year in Oreegan, they had a lip synch competittion and they guy I liked, the German exhange student, and his immature friends (they were so dumb) did "Living on a prayer" and I LOVED it! Then for the Prom we (yes, we!!) danced to "Never say good-bye" awwwwww.

I love you JBJ!

How do you French kiss a time of day?

All I know is, I wouldn't touch his alarm clock for a million dollars...

Totally love Bon Jovi. I don't think I love him like you love him though. But that is because that love from me is resolved for someone else. That would be Clay Aiken. Much weirder than your love for Bon Jovi. But what can I say.

Is Bon Jovi (is it supposed to be two words?) still touring with Daughtry? I bet that's one amazing concert. Daughtry is my running partner. I love him too. But still not as much as I love Clay.

Can't help you on the lyrics. Really I hate all references to french kissing. I mean, it's fun and all, but I hate the words. FRENCH KISSING. I think it sounds disgusting. Maybe because the only time anyone actually refers to it as french kissing is when you are in late middle school and then it really would be gross. Cuz who knows how to do it the right way in middle school? Probably just a lot of drool and stuff.

Now, I'm done.

Oh, and Nobody, I am ALL about being bff.

Well, I don't know what an ironclad is and I'm not sure how you can french kiss something intangible (big word!), so beats me.

At my school we had this huge thing about picking the best song EVOH, and guess what my school voted for? OHHHHHHHH WE'RE HAFF WAY THERE WHOAAAA LIVIN ON A PRAYER! At this point I had never heard of it, but now it's on my mp3 player. Coincidence? I think NOT! :-D I've always wanted to say that. I voted for the Bear Necessites and Bye Bye Miss American Pie.

I love Bon Jovi! I am a 32 yr old mother of 2 and I looove Bon Jovi!

I have always taken those lyrics to mean that he is going to take on whatever is coming with resolve and fully embrace it for what it is.

Of course I yelp and scream at his concerts, so what do I know??

My wife has a spot in her heart for JonBon (as he's referred to around here) also. We've been known to randomly start singing a few of his songs, particularly Blaze of Glory. We harmonize, I sing Richie's part. Yes, my voice is deeper than hers, but she never lets me be Jon. It's not even negotiable.

As for the french kissing thing, I'm not sure. I often consider myself a morning person, but not once have I french kissed it. Then again, JonBon is rich and hot, so he can get away with french kissing whatever he wants.

no darlin' life is too short to worry if your relationship with JBJ is forever doomed for not "getting" a song lyric.

sexy doesn't have to make sense, it just IS.

Come on! You wouldn't expect JBJ to be some sweaty palmed, weak fisted, thin, mushy lipped kisser would ya? Heck no, JBJ embraces the beginning of the day w/ his strong hand and passionate ways/kisses!

And I am totally about the JBJ, no reason for it totally not my real type. He is almost a pocket book man, but he is H O T T (as Hannah would say)

Yes mommaj.... JBJ is touring with Daughtery sp? I got tickets for christmas, and I am NOT afraid to use them!

First off....thanks Nobody....you're my gardian angel........aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh......;) I was never really a JBJ fan. sure I liked a few of thier songs, but I was never the ahir band type. I was more Rock..Alice Cooper, AC/DC, Aerosmith(kinda sorta glam rock, but with an edge!), BEASTIE BOYS, RUN DMC; and the only crush I remember having was with Keiffer Sutherland, and I still do! He also makes me twitterpated~

Well, having served a mission in France, I get some pretty gross images of disgusting French mouths when I hear the term "French Kiss". They don't have the same attitude toward dental hygiene as we North American types.
That said, my fondest memory of Bon Jon Bovi and "Livin' On A Prayer would have to be Dance Festival my Junior year of High School (yes I was a junior when that song came out, I'm old). We had just finished our day long practice for that night's performance and had a couple of hours to kill. They decided to throw an impromptu dance for the 1000 or so kids performing in the regional festival. The first song they played was LoaP. Imagine that many teenagers dancing to and singing along to that song in the huge arena of the Henry J. Kaiser Building in Oakland. It was something I'll never forget.

Hmmm. Not a JBJ fan (in fact it took me a minute to remember it was JBJ not BJB).

I'm voting for the lyric translation to be:
With a firm resolve,
I wake up and love that it's morning.

Although if you have to firmly resolve to love something, how much do you really love it? Shouldn't it just be, "Wow, I woke up and the day is just amazing!" or perhaps "With firm resolve I decide I am going to wake up finally." That's how my mornings usually go.

I finally worked up the nerve to try to french kiss the morning this morning. Sad to say, it was a little... um, awkward. It's like I'm back in 8th grade all over again.

Omar....That was you! OMG spthhpsth this is awkward.
