Why I Had Kids

Here by popular demand:
The MLK Jr cake.

I always wanted a Teddy Ruxpin when I was little. If only I had known then that I just had to wait 25 years, be married to a man with mad cake decorating skills, and have a 5 year old obsessed with notable Black American leaders...

All my wildest dreams came true when J built this cake.

You know, Bo is quick to call me on my shortcomings. He notices when the dinner I make is gross. He tells me loudly and repeatedly when I let his underwear drawer get empty. He just isn't one to let things slide.

He was perfectly happy with this cake. It was 100% acceptable as a likeness of Martin Luther King Jr.

Methinks there is somewhat of a double standard here.

J taped a great conversation with Bo just after this cake was made. But I can't post it because J uses his first and last name on it twice.

And on a completely unrelated and final note, tonight while I was walking home from a friend's house with Avee, we had this conversation.

Me: Avee, did you help clean up downstairs?
Avee: No
Me: What did you do then?
Avee: I just walked around, I was too tired to clean.
Me: Avee, I need to talk to you about helping when it's clean up time.
Avee:(popping her head off my shoulder where she was sweetly snuggled) You keep calling me AVEE!
Me: You're right, I do! What should I call you?
Avee: You should call me Princess Peach Beauty Mom Princess.
Me: Oh
Avee: Stop laughing at me!
Me: I can't help it.

I would just like to point out that MOM made it into that line up.

Yesssssssssss.

What flavor of chapstick is your favorite?

Avee is a special girl. I was wondering if Bo watched the inauguration today and what he thought about it? J does have awesome baking skills, is today your birthday?

Oh, to rank with peaches and princesses and beauty. Sigh...

Teddy Ruxpin was a civil rights activist?!

I hear about the underwear drawer, too. The day they start doing their own laundry is going to be a bigger party at my house than the inauguration. You can come, but only if J will make the cake.

And from now on, make the videos anonymous enough to post or else don't mention them! ;)

see, the problem is that you're comparing lack of underwear to cake. CAKE! Who cares what's on it? Did he complain about his train cake? Probably not.

I don't think you're giving J's decorating skills enough credit. His cake looks just like MLK did in this picture. Maybe it's harder to tell the resemblance because we're only used to seeing black and white photos of Dr. King?

Sweeeeet!

Nobody - this was a great post. I loved your conversation with Avee and I really liked the cake, I think that frosting is difficult to work with and faces are even harder.

buuuuuut, I have to say Omar stole the show with his picture in his comment. I cannot stop laughing!!! Hilarious!!!

Code, I'd be happy to make a laundry cake for you when the day comes. I'll be posting the video either on my facebook account, or on my blog. Those who know will be able to see the beauty. By the way, in the video you can see in the background the 0bama poster, but it's kind of hard to see because of the light.

Omar. You are the man.

I think the cake is awesome. It's better than any other MLK cake I've seen- although I've never seen one.

I love Avee.

the first and best mlk cake i've ever seen. and hats off to omar. i had a good laugh.

i always thought teddy ruxpin was creepy, but he could be good for a laugh if you put an nwa tape in him. i remember he had a friend named grubby, some kind of bug. very disturbing.

and avee has a great sense of self-esteem. she's tired, not lazy. :)

Gurrllll..that's what you get for moving clear across the freaking country. I have a fridge stocked with the "good" stuff. I am the same way - gotta have the REAL meds.

Hope you are all better now. :)

Bow Down to Omar!

Wow, I must say that is amazing, and I love that pink was picked for the background, all the more festive. I really hope this becomes a tradition! J, you should totally make these cakes and sell them next year. HUGE profit!

You should send that in to cakewrecks, and no offense to you J, it's just to say that it's a MLK cake it could get high publicity and we all know that's what you're all about right? FAME.

I peed a little in my pajama pants when I saw omars picture. Indeedy he does cast a huge resemblance to that photo.

NOBO - thanks for taking notice to my last comment, I'm a bit of an Eeyore when it comes to people taking time for me. I'm a true nobody. You're a famous nobody...
Yes, my illness is of the fetal type, and I must point out it's not just morning, it all day every day.

I fell let down by not being able to hear the cake conversation.

One good thing about having only boys is that I am their standard of femininity . . . sad, I know. My bridal portrait is Mommy's princess picture. When I play MarioKart, they tell me I have to be Princess Peach, because as ConMan says, "That's you on there, Mommy!" And, according to G-Dog, when my hair is up, I'm a princess, but when it's down, I'm Mommy . . . so when my hair is up and he wants me to do something Mommyish, he takes things into his own hands and pulls out all the pins. Nice.

That is a great cake. You've really set the bar for MLK celebrations, haven't you? And the picture of MLK form Omar? Hilarious!!

Good thing children can't name themselves, huh? That would never fit on a standardized test bubble sheet.

And I feel your pain with the video. I have video of my husband running around in the snow in boxers on New Year's Day and for some reason he doesn't want me to post it. On my blog or facebook.

Super cute.

Also I love the shirt that your son is wearing that says I still live with my parents. So cute. I need one for my kids.

Omar is funny and clever. Loved it.

Maybe J should quit his regular job and travel the country making cakes for various events!
When is he going to do a Harry S. Truman cake?

Love the "kek"! J is truly an evil genuis!
But back to the Avee not cleaning up my toys!!!
She did a great job dodging that discussion! Smart girl! No cleaning up and no answering for it!!!

If you could only hear/see me now...I'm wiping tears off my face and trying desperately not to laugh so loudly that I wake my children.

THAT, my friend, was an AWESOME POST!

Don’t turn your back on bears, men you have wronged, or the dominant turkey during mating season.

This is great. Please say that you'll transcribe said recorded conversation conveniently editing out any identifiable details? please please pleeeeease??? OK I'll quit whining now. ;)

I don't know, it looks like J did a pretty good job on that cake, although I don't ever recall Dr MLK ever having been surrounded by pink elephants on parade. ;) But I would definitely believe that Teddy Ruxpin was.

When I read Sarah's comment I almost spit out my celebratory piece of MLK cake!
