I Don't Know What That Means

Today I voted.

I don't mean no disrespect to those lovely volunteers. I do appreciate that there are people willing to do it. But there should be some level of....uh....ability to see and comprehend. And maybe an ability to talk without yelling. Maybe it's just me.

The lady looked at the page with my name on it for a good 90 seconds before she spotted it. And then she double checked that I was in fact Nobody P. Whirl. Like 5 times. Double checking five times = infinity. It was painful to watch. And anytime someone said something, no matter where they were or who they were talking to, she stopped everything, pencil suspended in air, to follow the entire conversation. J was waiting at home with the kids and there was a really long line of people trying to vote before rushing off to work.

Plus, I'm the dork who had an absentee ballot and didn't use it, but in fact lost it, and then showed up at the polls thinking the world would stop, just for me and my unorganized lifestyle.

Twas not so. Every old man with a cell phone was riled up and yelling at some poor unsuspecting soul at the downtown precinct. "SHE LOST HER ABSENTEE BALLOT. LOST IT. NO, NO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL AFFIDAVIT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, SHE'S HERE NOW....WHAT? Sonofa...I think he hung up on me!"

Could be because you were yelling at him, sir.

J handed me my absentee ballot a couple of weeks ago and said, "Do this, I've got it all ready for you." And I glared at him and shoved it away and said, "You're not the boss of me." And he shrugged and walked away.

Sure enough, it got lost and thus the above scene at the polls ensued. I confessed to J last night that I hadn't completed it and couldn't find it. He said, "It's okay. Your vote won't matter anyway."

I took Bo with me because he is pretty fascinated with this whole election thing. He wanted to know the names of everyone I voted for on the ballot. So much for privacy.

I'm watching my friend's kids and they're pretty funny. I always love car conversations and there were some good ones this morning.

Bo is obsessed with Barack Obama right now. It's kind of funny to me. This is obviously, entirely of his own volition.

So in the car he announces that he wants Barack to win and he's pretty sure he will win. The other kids ask him why. Which is a smart question. And Bo answers that it's because he's taller and he's skinny and he has brown skin and he's taller.
7 year old boy answers, "Uh, being skinny really doesn't make you be a better president."

Amen to that. In fact, I think the opposite of that is true and I do believe I'd be the best president known to man.

Later, 7 year old boy said that he didn't believe leper fish existed.

His 9 year old sister said, "That is not a fact (7yearold)! You can't prove it, so it's not a fact!"

Here's a fact. When I was 9 years old I did not ever argue that intelligently. I believe there was a lot more "butthead" and a lot less "facts and proving".

His Father's Son

Here's what I don't get: Simple question about presidential candidate and he "doesn't know what I'm talking about". And yet, he can repeat information he heard once, about Yushchenk0.

I love Bo's reasoning. I could be President, too, if I had a tan! Andrew cracked me up with his response to why he would vote for McCain. One of the kids in his class told him that Obama would make our lives miserable. Prior to that he was a staunch supporter of Obama.

So, so funny. And this video taught me that when you write words the way your kids say them, you do not exaggerate at all.

Because Bo said "he's smowler" when talking about john mccain.

what'd you go and loose your ballot for?! Making life difficult for poor senior volunteers at the voting booth... shame on nobody.

glad they let you vote anyway.

I'm not sure what they talk about at school, but my kid's come home with some pretty funny things about this whole election thing. Every time Brax sees an Obama sign he acts all disgusted and what not. It's pretty funny!
Also, Do I see a little Avee in Danyo, going from the couch to the bookcase, what the....?????

Love it! Chandler voted yesterday at school (apparently they did a vote with the first graders) and Obama won. Is it me or are they starting them younger now? Maybe this is why Obama will win - the people who are undecided will just pick who their kids say cause they have done more research about who is taller and who has more hair. So glad our country will be run based on looks. What ever happened to values?

I Love Ben's video, super cute - but Danny in the background with the um chocolate face is totally my FAVE!!

Alright! We have some future presidents in our home. As long as the election takes place during the summer when we are all brown skin'd. Love it!

Very intelligent boy you have there.

I babysat some kids yesterday and the little girl, who is in kindergarten, announced to me that she was voting for Obama. After I picked my chin up off the floor I asked her why. She said "because he is younger". Interesting....

We had a boy on the radio today say that he was voting for Obama because he likes comic books! If only it were that simple.....

That video is GOLD. "Smalloh...fattoh...moh haioh..." I love it. I think I will have to watch it thirty more times.

And to think I live in that great country where they throw poison all over people's faces. (I can't believe he KNOWS about that, let alone remembers it...awesome.)

And can I just say that "That's OK. Your vote won't matter anyway" made me laugh out loud?

I'm slightly disappointed that she took that line of defense against the leper fish. Just because you can't prove something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Lack of scientific evidence does not disprove. We will have to have another brainwashing session I guess.

"It's okay. Your vote won't matter anyway."

He's so supportive.

Tori cheated.

Look at Danyo in the back there. He gets on TV once, then suddenly a video camera can't run without him being in the frame.

If other people think like Bo, I may be able to get some votes if I ran in 2012. Though I may need to lose a few pounds first...

Well he does have dark skin and his skinny, taller, and uhm, I forgot the rest of what his sweet voice said. I could listen to him all day.

ucmama said...

and also, I also hope Nobody P. Whirl is a really vague reference to Ernest P. Whirl. Otherwise I'm just going to have to pretend it is.

that's ernest p. worrell, if you're talkin bout the jim varney guy. i should know. my mom had a "knowwhutimean" t-shirt back in the 80's that my sister stole and one of these days when she's not looking i'm going to steal it from her...
hilarious. barak's bigger and taller and has brown skin. i'd be screwed if i ever ran; i'm small, short, white, and far from eloquent.

Oh man, it totally didn't occur to me that McCain is smah-doh! I need to change my vote...not that it mattered.

That's just the way 9 year old is. She's been like that since she was 3 year old.

Eve you're so silly, she didn't suddenly start being disagreeable at 3

Love the video of Bo...and Danyo.
Sorry, you had to deal with difficult people while voting. We got right in and right out. BTW, you would make a great president!!
Nobody for President! Nobody for President!!

ava, too, has been totally into this election. she loved watching the last debate with us and on tuesday night she went with me to drop my absentee ballot off and wanted to know who i was voting for.

i wanted me and paul to go and vote at the polling station, even though we are absentee voters but i CALLED in advance to see if that was possible and they said it was actually a big hassle since i'm an absentee voter and my name wouldn't be on the list so it would be best to just bring my absentee ballot in. so, i luckily avoided the mess you were in by just calling ahead. am i being bratty? i will shut up.

and say, your vote does too matter, big jay!

Ha ha ha ha - I love the way Bo says Brack. Next time I'm definitely talking to that kid before I vote.

Oh and Danyo couldn't have planned his smudgy-faced appearance(trek up the couch and over Bo's shoulder) better!
