That's what time Avee woke up today. With the fiercest case of bedhead I've seen in a LONG time.

Of course I took pictures.

This video is from a couple of weeks ago.

A little background; often while I am taking a shower Avee will come and busy herself in the bathroom. Even if J is home. Even if her favorite show is on tv. It's just one of those things she's gotten into her head and she won't let go. So, one of those times she was relatively unsupervised in the bathroom, she discovered a Clinique bag under the sink. It was full of lipstick (my mom gives me anywhere from 5 to 73 tubes a year---they're all "my color" and as a result, absolutley vital that I own them) and fingernail polish. Two things I think I'll wear but rarely do. Instead they are all crammed in a Clinique bag and forgotten under the sink.

Well, Avee thought she had died and gone to heaven. Truly. There was never a more perfect bag in existence and she could hardly believe she lived before she found this bag.

It was her constant companion for probably 4 days straight.

I have a weakness as a mother. If I see something like that bringing my child so much joy, it's hard for me to be really strict about it. In reality, a 2 year old should not have free reign with a bag of lipstick and polish. But most of her joy was in carrying the bag and I was indulgent. She was actually pretty moderate and puts on lipstick with a surprising amount of skill. Considering I'm her mother...

Anyway, one of the times she was lathering on the lipstick, she and I had words. You won't see much of her because she's "hiding" under the dining table---this is where she goes to make the bad and bossy parent disappear. I feel like this exchange is very classic Avee/Mama.

p.s. I usually don't drag out dialogue or drag out/forget I'm counting, for those of you worried about my despicable parenting skills. It was all for the love of the film.

I think this post should be titled, "Avee, The Teenager Stuck in a 2 Year-old Body".

I wish my kids would sleep until 7am much less 11am. What kind of sleeping drugs did you give her? I need some:).
As for the video. HILARIOUS!! I think every 2yr thinks they are the boss, however she's quite persistent about it. Love it.
Charly recognized Avery immediately and said that's my friend Avery.

Too bad your other kids didn't sleep that late too. What a dream.

I watched the video again by request of my kids and love your parenting skills. You pulled out the middle name and ended with the BIG threat of no party. That will get them every time.

Where do kids LEARN the "You're not the boss" thing? (Henry's been driving me crazy with it for about six months now.) Do I say it to their dad? No. Does he say it to me? Definitely not. And do they really think we'll buy it?

Except Avery's pretty good at taking charge - "I need to go sit on my bed..." I bet it's pretty hard not to let her be the boss, huh?

P.S. The bed head? AWESOME.

Avery has been sick with a fever since Saturday night. She doesn't appear to have any other symptoms, just a really high fever. I think her 15 hour sleep helped, but she's still not herself. She went to bed at 8 PM and was out almost instantly.

I don't know if it is obvious, and at the risk of pointing out the obvious: We send our kids to sit on their beds to think if they are out of control or deliberately disobedient, and they come back whenever they are ready. Bo HATES this method of discipline because he hates to be alone. Avee doesn't care for it, but responds to it, so we use it. Well, she was all agreeable to go to her room and sit on her bed, WITH the bag of makeup. It was like I was yelling at her over and over and then suddenly said, "Here Avee, put on makeup all you want for as long as you want, and why don't you take this bag of candy too." What amazes me is, she recognized this instantly and it took me a second to figure it out, only after she was so agreeable.

What kind of dork blogs more about their post in the comment section?

Nobo is the dork???? The coming out from under the table, throwing her bag stylishly over her shoulder is PRICELESS. Kind of reminds me of her mother! Thanks for the late night laugh, now I shall giggle in my sleep.

ps I would love to say my daughter won't talk to me like that, but she started at 1 min old! oh crap.

I laughed through the whole video. And I love the bed head. I want to see a picture of the amazing lipstick application.

thank you for draggin it out and forgetting that you were counting for the sake of filming it...hilarious! you still get my nomination for mommy of the year tho...simply for letting your daughter carry around a bag filled with hundreds of dollars worth of clinique...yep, you rock!

"No Ben...I'm DAAAA Baaahhhsss!"

That's good stuff. My favorite part was Alex sitting beside me saying, "She's being naughty Mom." as though I didn't have virtually this exact same conversation with him a few days ago. Sorry I didn't video it for you.

oooohh my Layne would LOVE Avee!!! She sleeps to 11am when she's NOT sick! oh and as for a few posts ago...I totally think you're funny...I have a photo of the two of us...when we turned up tothe T2 wearing exactly the same outfit and you were about to push me down the stairs in a wheelchair...the expression on both of our faces is just a bit priceless! :)

Hm, it appears as though I forgot to re-comment. Or maybe I didn't forget, but I wasn't commenting in silent protest to the whole "boss of even daddy" thing. Yeah, I like that better. Regardless, now I feel the need to defend my honor. I was at work when I commented the first time, and I wasn't in a position to turn up my laptop's sound. So I could have immediately *watched* the video, but I (correctly) assumed that I'd be missing out without sound.
