Don't you hate conversations like this:
Hi Nobody!
Oh hi! I haven't seen you in while! How are you?
Doin' fine, we all just got over being sick so now we can come back to the Y.
Oh I know what you mean, it's awful how long it takes for the whole family to get healthy, isn't it?
Yeah. Did you get your hair cut?
Yes I did!
It looks shorter.
Oh thaaaaaaanks.
Both thinking, "uhhhhhh that wasn't a compliment why did I/she say thank you?"
I do not know.
Well, I gotta run!
Okay, thank you!
Just kidding. I didn't say thank you twice. But dang, why did I even say it the first time?
Immediately after this conversation I went and stood in front of a couple of doors and waited for them to open.
For about 15 seconds.
They were not automatic.

HILARIOUS!!
ok now i will finish what i was saying...since i am FIRST! neener neener...
i think shorter IS a compliment. it's NOT a compliment when someone says, "oh it looks so healthy" THAT is what people say when they can't think of anything nice to say about the new hairdo..
for reals...i ain't lying.
Don't you hate when that happens?
I hate that too!! By the way, I love your hair cut. At the baby shower I kept looking at you, trying to figure out what looked different, and it was the hair. Very, very cute!!
Did anyone else notice you waiting for the door to open?
I am always "pushing" instead of "pulling" the door even if the sign is right in front of my face.
And my vote is compliment on the hair.
heh, that happens to me just about every day. in fact, sometimes when i'm talking there's a train wreck in my mouth and i have to think about what it was i was trying to say and then reconcile myself to the fact that some of the words i actually said weren't even real words. thanks henry, thanks a lot.
oh yes, and having dog elbows only makes it worse! :)
I bet you look super cute!
You know what would have been fun? If instead of a non-automatic door it had been an elevator door and you had pushed >|< to "GO".
Yeah.
Thaaaanks!
You could have said 'How observant you are!' or 'No, i just had my ears lowered.' Or something equally as dorky. Then go stand in front of the non-automatic doors. :)
Thanks.
That sounds like exactly something that I'd do! People will call me and say "Hi Suzanne" and sometimes I'll respond "good thanks." I blame it on the ADD. That's all!
P.S. I'm sure your hair looks very cute!
You
Make
Me
Laugh
I ALWAYS do stuff like that. Sometimes I can hear myself saying 'thanks' and stop before I finish, making it more obvious that it was a retarded thing to say. :-)
Guilty! I do this quite a bit. I actually hate it when someone asks me how I am and reply "good, thanks" but then I don't reciprocate. Like I could care less, but I don't, I'm just an idiot. :) Your hair is absolutely FABULOUS, as Nyah would say.
I just had dejavu reading this post, it either happened to me or it's happened to you before. lol.
Oooh, that is a bummer.
It reminds me of that ridiculous comment that some people make when you ask them if they got a haircut and they say, "No, I got them all cut!" Ha Ha. I actually think it's funnier to say thank you when you weren't paid a compliment.
I'm guessing your hair is probably awesome enough that you can just assume everyone that looks at you is giving you a compliment. Just walk around saying thank you to everyone. Cause you know they are loving you in their head. That is how awesome you are.
I'd Shucked on it.
If I had to I would and you knows it.
okay.. see I read your blog.. carefully assigning statements and it did not play out.. I thought you said.. its looks shorter.. see i am not fast like that.. just re-read it.. see the Nobody in the first sentence threw me off and I assigned it to you.. whatever.. I got a short due too.. and I think shorter is a complimanet!! I had a friend that always stated the obvious instead of complimenting.. like oh.. you got a hair cut... oh your leg is cut off..etc..etc.. thats not nice, but 15 sec. in front of the door.. now that is priceless.. ramble ramble ramble..
So my father in law was in this weekend arriving at 0430am. My husband took care of everything so when I got up to tinkle he saw me and said "welcome" "I mean hi!" So funny. I have stood in an elevator for WAY TOO long before I realized I forgot something.
You are too funny! I can't tell you how many times the door thinkg has happened to me!
You too.
