Just Some Stuff

I've never had a thumbsucker. I used to try and get Bo and Avee to suck their thumbs when they were babies because I thought it was so darn cute. They wouldn't have any of it.
Danyo discovered his thumb the other night and I could seriously sit and stare at him for hours while he sucks away contentedly. I'm fairly certain I won't be so fond of it if it sticks or in 12 years when orthodontic bills start rolling in.

But until then, I'm gonna take probably 500 more pictures of this adorable little guy...

And this one is why I don't get all up in a tizzy when my child climbs. Or gets herself into sometimes precarious situations. I believe in natural consequences (in some instances) for children to learn things. Avee enjoys falling. You will see.
You will also hear a discussion on Bo's "eye licking" that I had forgotten got recorded. This video was taken last Saturday when we were unpacking some boxes stored in the basement.

I agree that thumb sucking is cute...when they are babies. Now it just drives me nuts, because all I think about are how screwed up Casey's teeth are going to be. People will give you a ton of info on how to get them to quit, easire said than done. We've tried everything. For the record, he wouldn't take the soother, apperently it didn't taste as good as his thumb....oh AND his other thumb tastes gross. Apperently there is a difference! Who knew.

Livie is a thumbsucker too. I thought she'd outgrow it but she still does it when she's sleeping.
You're voice is cute!! (Does that sound creepy??)

Glitter is a thumb sucker but only when she's sleepy.

I think Avee could be a stuntwoman or an airborne ranger.

OMGoodness, Beckie is so right! A says that her other thumb is gross! Who knew?? And she will let you suck her other thumb (sorry, I know that is gross), but you can't even get her to let you look at the designated "sucking thumb." Kids are so weird. The pediatrition says she will stop when she is ready and that if you force the issue it will only get worse. After several failed attempts to get her to stop, I now know why he gets the co-pay and not me!!

-I love thumb sucking that involves putting the rest of your hand on your nose (like the 1st picture).

-"She did that one purpose" -So that's what you are telling CPS!

-"It works for everyone else in the world" - True dat boi, yo mama know best.

-I see J!! HOLA J!!!

-That last fall was utterly hilarious.

Seriously, that is the most hysterical post.. the baby dano fussing and you discussing whats wrong, Bo and his eye issues, blink like the rest of the world, that is classic, and Avee.. what can I say, it melts my heart, she needs to come bounce around here... when are you coming back?!! As for J's cough, get that boy some sudafed, or something, and all the while your sweet voice, she ment to do that, but you cut it off before Avee could answer.. we wanna know.. Avee.. are you okay?!

i like how you encourage avee to 'surf'.
recorded proof of a multi-tasking mom: burping one, laughing at two, and sassing three. looks a lot my house.

So um are you holding and nursing Danyo, recording Avee and helping Bo all at the same time? You are a miracle Mama.

I loved that she "wants" to fall head first again.

Danyo is 'dorable. Love that nose holding thumbsucking. I personally beleive that the reason so many babies use this technique is so the thumb doesn't accidentally fall off their face.

"I wanna do that again!" She is FUNNY.

Charlie sucks his first two fingers and it kills me it's so cute, but so far it's accidental, although it soothes him for a long time once he gets them there. I'm with NCS on the full hand covering the nose thing - adorable.

A funny thing about clumsiness (which is totally not Ave's deal - she's awesomely coordinated) and natural consequences: I asked my kids' dr about Henry falling all the time - he very rarely cries but he comes away with serious bruises, etc. She told me that some kids don't have an aversion to pain, or they have a higher tolerance, so they never feel the need to learn balance or grace because it doesn't hurt to be a clutz. Hmmm. It hurts me but I still didn't learn grace. :)

That little guy is a PUDGE. And I'm sorry, I know it's not good for their teeth and you'll hate it when he's 5 and can't stop sucking his thumb and it's time to go to kindergarten. But I agree with you, little thumbsucking babies are SO adorable.

Just start his orthodontia fund now, and you'll be set.

Cute thumbsucker! :) Maybe it won't last forever and then you don't have to try to get him to stop, but long enough to get all the cute picts you need!

Did you ever get a burp outta that baby??

Carrot Jello said...

You know, you shouldn't wish that your baby will be a thumb sucker.
That's pretty much like saying, "I hope my child has buck teeth later in life."
Who does that?

Hi Nobody, I've been enjoying your posts and thought I'd finally say hi!

I never had a thumbsucker that stuck with it. I always wanted one, but am glad I never had to go through the struggle of getting them to stop. Seeing your baby almost makes me want another, but my youngest is now six, and the thought of going back to diapers is enough to squash that thought!

Hey, we saw that same episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse!

I'm impressed with how well she can keep her balance on that box.

My boy didn't really start sucking his thumb until after his first birthday, now (at almost 3) he does it quite a bit.

I love how Avery just hops back up and keeps playing! How cute. Oh and how cute with Ben saying "It doesn't work for me!"

So when you say that you're unearthing your basement, does that mean you're unpacking or are you building a house? :)

He's getting so big! Thanks for posting new pics of him. What a cutie!

I was thinking what "megachick" said.. MULTITASKING. Crackin up! You are hillarious and Bo's little voice is so cute. Danyo is THE CUTEST and I LOVE the thumb sucking. I sucked my thumb till I was 7 and I am just fine. (Picture in your head bubba teeth- just kidding. It is a miracle I never had to have braces unless that is pile of crap that sucking thumb makes buck teeth).
Avee cracks me up. What a dare devil. Carma is just the OPPOSITE. She barely started climbing on the coffee table. haha

That is so funny!! The background discussion was killing me, poor boy. I like your natural consequences approach.

LOVE that Danyo. I have a sonogram of Hope sucking her thumb in utero. I'm happy to report she stopped sucking her thumb long ago, but she did it for years. She's 8 1/2 now, and her teeth are perfect.
