We, on the other hand, partied hard with chocolate cake, friends, and a nice long history lesson from J.
In other news, on Sunday night while I was working, J played a game of Sorry with Danyo. He was so entertained by it, that he grabbed our Flip camera and discreetly filmed the game. I have a lot of videos of my kids. This one is probably my favorite.
In keeping with our MLK tradition, here is a picture of our cake. There are two candles to represent our second year of celebrating as a family.
I'm really looking forward to Groundhog's Day. It's one of my favorite holidays.

I'm totally making a cake next year. I think cake is brilliant all the time, no matter what you are celebrating. Or not celebrating, for that matter.

y'all are so cool. i don't know anybody who celebrates mlk day, aside from enjoying the day off (henry and i did). that cake is awesome, just like something i would make. and "ahh! sowwy dad!" was too cool.
My whole family gathered round to see danyo. I love how when J got a 4, he made sure to show the camera so we would know he wasn't cheating.

Kudos for celebrating MLK day! Peanut was just dying to get me to read her Weekly Reader on MLK. Why are kids so political? I just don't remember being that interested?

When she was little, my brother's wife thought MLK was milk, saw it on the calendar and said "Mommy, why do we celebrate milk day"? Her mom thought it was so funny, that she said, "and not just any milk, but 'chocolate milk' day!" So they drank chocolate milk and read about MLK, and continue the tradition today.
Great way to teach your kid manners! My kids could definitely use some practice saying, "Sorry".

You can tell Bo that the Meikles TOTALLY talked about civil disobedience, civil rights, and even had a little mock sit-in. We did not, however, have cake. We will next year.
Very cute video. I love how all the pieces stayed on one side of the board and his counting? Adorable. We talked about MLK on his day, but not near to the depth you did. We got a little hung up when our children (even with prompting) couldn't think of ANY OTHER martyrs.
i think danyo uses the same counting system brigitte uses: it's based on a lot of 8's: 2, 8, 18.

I celebrated MLK day by sleeping and sitting around in my jammies most of the day.
